CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

The Catholic school system for the Nailsea and Clevedon area of the diocese consists of St. Francis' Catholic Primary School (4 - 11) which averages 210 pupils on roll, St. Bede's Catholic College, with Science and PE as their specialisms (11 - 16) accommodating 700 pupils and St. Brendan's RC Sixth Form College (16 - 18) with approximately 700 students. These three schools originate from the heartfelt desire in the Catholic parishes and diocese for children to have a broad and balanced education, enhanced throughout with the values of the Catholic Faith.  There exists excellent liaison between our three schools and children are achieving the highest of standards.  Parents of children at St. Francis are warmly encouraged to visit St. Bede's Catholic College and St. Brendan's Sixth Form College when considering an upper school or sixth form education. St Bede’s, an Ofsted Outstanding secondary school enjoyed their best GCSE results ever this year, outstripping the state schools within our catchment area.  Further details of our Catholic Schools are available in the school office.

Chinese New Year

was celebrated by Year 2 recently. Can you guess from the masks which animal is celebrated in 2010? The chlidren walked around the perimeter of the school with the dragon leading the procession

Christingle Mass

Parents and friends joined us for our Christingle Mass. For a few days leading up to the Mass, each child made a Christingle being reminded of the symbolism of the candle, orange, ribbon and fruit.

The school community was shocked by the devastation, death and suffering to the poor people of Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake. The collection from the Mass was sent to Cafod to use in their rescue mission to help Haiti. A total of £455 was collected, many pupils emptied their money boxes so they could personally help other children.

Christmas 2009:

Our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children performed their Nativity Play, The Little Fir Tree to packed performances of parents, grandparents and friends. The playgroup attached to St Francis Church joined us and watched the production with the rest of the school. See below some of the comments written in the Visitors' Book:

"Beautiful production, everyone a Star!"

My third Nativity - equally joyful. Exceptional"

"What a fantastic performance, Well done to all"

"Fantastic production. Brings the message of Christmas home. Thank you"

"Beautiful and very moving performance. Obviously a lot of work went into it. Thank you"

"I shall miss it next year!"

November 2009

Fr Michael and Deacon Paul from St Francis Catholic Church in Nailsea and Fr Reg from the Immaculate Conception in Clevedon regularly come into School to speak with the children and celebrate Mass and Assembly with children and parents. The School choir enjoys singing for First Communion at both churches during the year.

In November, we said Farewell to Fr Michael as he heads off to join the community on Caldey Island, and a big Welcome to Fr Sam who will be looking after us at St Francis Church.  We held a special Assembly to give Fr Michael cards and a scrap book to remember us by and look forward and hope Fr Sam will enjoy coming to visit the School.

May 2009

Deacon Paul was asked to led a very special procession last year. Dora, a donkey kindly loaned to the school from Noah's Ark Zoo Farm in nearby Wraxall, led the Palm Procession followed by Deacon Paul Reddington, who represented Jesus, and some Year 6 pupils who were dressed as Jesus' disciples. As the procession moved around the playground it passed the other children who waved palms and shouted 'Hosanna'.
