Governors

The Governors work in close liaison with the School to give support and to promote high standards. In 1990 the School became self-managing and the Governors formed a number of committees in order to operate most effectively. Their responsibilities are strategic relating to the policies and ethos of the School in such matters as finance, staffing, curriculum, discipline, admission and exclusion of pupils, premises and relations with the LEA, Diocese, parents and the community.

Governors are nominated or elected by the bodies which they represent, except co-opted Governors who are invited to serve by the members of the governing body itself. All Governors serve for periods of four years from the date of their appointment. If a Governor resigns within that time, their nominating body is required to nominate, or elect, a replacement as appropriate.

What is the School Profile?

Text Box: Background
Following the passage of the Education Act 2005, governing bodies are no longer required to hold an annual meeting for parents or produce a governors' annual report to parents. The report has been replaced by the school profile, which is designed for schools to communicate with parents about the school's progress, priorities and performance. Profiles are completed and published online.
Which schools need to complete a school profile?
All maintained schools need to publish a school profile except maintained nursery schools, which will continue to produce a governors' annual report.
Non-maintained schools, independent schools and academies are not required to complete a school profile, and will not be able to log on to the secure school-profile area.
School profile content
The profile was designed after extensive consultation with schools, local authorities, governors, parents and pupils, and has recently been improved in line with feedback received from those completing it in the first year.

The profile contains, where relevant:
Data provided and updated by the DfES on an annual basis
A summary of the latest Ofsted report provided by the DfES and updated at least every three years
Narrative sections written by the school, updated at least once every academic year
The narrative sections include the following headings:
What have been our successes this year?
What are we trying to improve?
How have our results changed over time?
How are we making sure that every child receives teaching to meet their individual needs?
How do we make sure our pupils are healthy, safe and well-supported?
What have we done in response to our Ofsted report?
How are we working with parents and the community?
